Improving support and access to services for Koori and First Nations court users
The Magistrates’ Court of Victoria is committed to improving cultural safety and supports for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander court users.
A recent update to Courtlink, the Magistrates’ Court’s criminal case management system, prompts a judicial officer to ask whether a court user identifies as Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander if the Court has not already recorded this information.
This helps ensure that the Court is offering culturally appropriate support, services and programs to First Nations court users and that legislative provisions are complied with.
A court user can choose to provide no information in response to the question.
