Family violence matters
Coming to court can be stressful. The information in this section will help you be ready when you come to court for your matter.
Whatever your situation, it's important to know that help and support is available. You have a right to be safe and nobody deserves violence.
Visit the find support page or information about the services available to you in the court. Call triple zero (000) If you are in danger.
The date and time of your court hearing will be sent to you on an application and summons or family violence safety notice.
If you have received:
- a family violence safety notice, the hearing date must be within 14 days after a safety notice is issued.
- an application and summons, the hearing date is usually several weeks after the applicant applies for an intervention order. It may be sooner if the respondent has been bailed or is in custody.
We recommend you arrive at least 30 minutes before your court time. Make sure you bring any documents relevant to your matter. This may include police statements, photos, contracts, victim impact statement or any other relevant information.
To keep the court safe, everyone goes through a security screening. This is to stop dangerous items being brought into court. See the safety and security page for more information.
